Welcome to my Blotter Art Gallery. Here you will find a new and hot form of artwork, blotter art.Back in the 60's when LSD was not yet illegal, the people distributing it wanted a way to "sign" their product so that the consumer could be assured that what they were receiving was the purest product available. Thus was born blotter art. Nobody really expected it to become an art form, because the art was litterally consumed. None of the artwork on this page has any trace of the drug on it. These are intended as simply asthetic examples of some amazing artwork by some amazing artists. Click on the image to view a larger version of the print. Here's a fantastic piece of blotter art by Stanley Mouse of Grateful Dead fame. "I Need a New Brain" It is a very limited run of only 300 pieces all hand-signed and numbered. Various numbers in stock. Please email for availability. $200.00 Here's a another great piece of blotter art by Stanley Mouse. This one limited to only 100 pieces. This new piece was signed and numbered by Stanley on February 19, 2005 and is almost completely sold out. The title of this piece is "Gimme Some Lovin". It measures 7.5 inches both directions. Various numbers in stock. Please email for availability. $300.00It is no surprise that one of the most popular themes for blotter art is Timothy Leary. Below are some examples of prints that Leary signed before his death in 1996. This piece known as "Large Leary Profile" comes framed and matted "acid free" to last a lifetime.
$700.00 This piece is called "Geisha Girl" and was signed and numbered out of 250 pieces. This piece is shown framed but is sold unframed. 171/250
$500.00 This piece is the "holy grail" of all blotter art. This blotter is really old. I'm not sure how old, and though the print isn't the most exciting, the story behind it and the signatures on it make the piece. Known as "Crests", you can see the image of numerous "family crests" on the paper. As you can see it was signed by both Albert Hofmann and Timothy Leary. There are thought to be fewer than 15 of these in existence, as Hofmann will not sign anything that Leary has signed, and of course, as the Moody Blues song told us, Timothy Leary is Dead. Hofmann signed and dated this piece on April 19, 1994, the 51st anniversary of the famous "Bicycle Ride" that he took after first purposely ingesting LSD in 1943. Afterward, the piece was taken to Leary to sign. Click on the image below to view the larger version. $10,000.00 ..... |
